GEMINI GEMINI TRACK BY TRACK: SNOWSTORM

The opening track on the new album is ”SNOWSTORM”. It was written after a weird, dramatic, dream I had one night. I dreamt that this world had come to an end, and that we were all going down – not through heat or bombs – but through a storm that would cover the whole world under a silencing blanket of snow. A new ice age, perhaps. We all knew we had it coming, after mistreating the planet we’d been given for years and years, and still – the feeling that arises when you know ’this is it’, is… hard to define. I wanted to capture the feeling I had when I awoke that morning, and ”Snowstorm” more or less wrote itself in less than an hour.

What ended up on the album is the same arrangement as on my first demo of it. Voice, a kalimba (thumb piano), a wooden block for the 2 & 4 and some different china cymbals – that’s it. I wanted to keep it simple and keep the arrangement centered around my voice. Lyrics below!

SNOWSTORM

A snowstorm is coming
coming to wipe us out
a cold white cover
and all will be quiet

We watch by the windows
we hide in our beds
while the cold wind is blowing
above our heads

We know all the prayers
yeah we know all the rhymes
if there’ll ever come a morning
we’ve denied it three times

We never cared about the water
we never cared about the bees
we never cared about the hungry
we never cared about the trees

Bring it all out, bring it out to the fire
let us stay warm until it takes us all
I know it’s not sharp but my arrow’s all I’ve got

So hush, hush baby
it has come to an end
no more fairy stories
no need to pretend

When the snowstorm is coming
coming to wipe us out
no one will hear us
our silent shouts

We never cared about the water
we never cared about the bees
we never cared about the hungry
we never cared about the trees

Bring it all out, bring it out to the fire
let us stay warm until it takes us all
I know it’s not sharp but my arrow’s all I’ve got

A snowstorm is coming
coming to wipe us out
a cold white cover
and all will be quiet
