Leaving for ÅÄÖ in Paris + Libération!

Tomorrow, Sunday May 13th, we’re leaving Stockholm for Paris and a few days of festive activities during the ÅÄÖ festival in Paris. Really looking forward to this! See this former post for some info about the two gigs we’re playing; La Maroquinerie on Monday 14th and at SI on Tuesday 15th. We’re also playing Les Affranchis on France Inter on Monday, so you can catch us on the radio. And Julien Bourgeois (that you could read about here) took the photo of me in the snow that was featured in this Thursday’s cultural pages in Libération!

France! An update, a book cover + free download of “She don’t lie”!

“The Sound of Your Beating Heart” was at last released in France, in April. Here’s one of the great reviews! So far we’ve played On çonnaît la musique at Europe 1 (broadcasted May 5th), but we’re coming back to do Les Affranchis at France Inter in May and most importantly: two live shows during the ÅÄÖ Festival in Paris! More info in a former post, but we’re playing La Maroquinerie on May 14th and Institut Suédois on May 15th. We are REALLY looking forward to this!

I’m on the cover of a book! French photographer Julien Bourgeois has made a beautiful book/iPad app about Swedish indie music, to be released May 10th. Go here to preorder your copy and read more about the project. After release date it will be available on Amazon.

French radio station Radio Nova has been playing “She don’t lie” frequently, so we decided to give away some free downloads of the track. Press the little arrow to the right to download your copy! Limited offer!

There’s been a lot going on besides the releases and trips to Germany, Benelux and France. A concert with a string quintet, opening for the Manic Street Preachers at a show in Copenhagen, a great tour with Ane Brun, guesting the Soundtrack of our lives on some organ, singing on a new Markus Krunegård track, guesting Deportees at their big show at Dramaten and more… Here are some clips and photos of random stuff!

Here’s a song by a new and fantastic band from my hometown; Winhill/losehill! They made their debut this spring with a beautiful and critically acclaimed double album. This is a song I truly love, and I also sing a bit on it.

BENELUX, an update + photos!

The album was released in the Benelux end of January, but we started off the adventure at the Eurosonic Festival, held mid-january, where we played two shows that was a lot of fun. Thanks to all of you who came and cheered! See a clip below that we did for FaceCulture, where we improvised a version of “Hard to come by” with a computer, a glass, a guitar and some handclapping. In the beginning of February we returned for two shows, one in Amsterdam and one in Brussels, accompanied by a favourite band of mine: The Forest & The Trees. Below you’ll find a gallery with some random pics from our little trip! And oh, the album got some really great reviews… Here’s one of the 4/5′s!

Germany, a summary + tour photos!

The album came out in Germany, Austria & Switzerland end of January. The first single “Hard to come by” has been massively played at Radio Eins, Motor FM and college radio, amongst others. Follow-up single “Wolf Hour” will be released in June! In March, we had a great little tour through Innsbruck, München, Köln, Hamburg and Berlin. Here’s a great live review from Köln! Caribana Festival, Switzerland, in June!

We’re happy to announce that Jennie will be playing her first ever show in Switzerland! It will take place during the Caribana Festival in Nyon on June 8th, and she will bring singer & cello player Linnea Olsson to create acoustic and stripped versions of her songs. We’re happy to announce Jennie will be playing the ÅÄÖ Musiques Actuelles Suédoises Festival in Paris in May. Jennie will share one night at La Maroquinerie with another stunning northern lady, Frida Hyvönen, and the lovely Promise & The Monster. The day after she will do a showcase at Institute Suédois with Blessing!

This morning I visited P3′s Musikhjälpen, or “the music help”, if you’d translate it. This year they are collecting money so that girls worldwide can go to school. They’re auctioning out all sorts of stuff, and I’m on sale as a singing teacher! Highest bidder will have a full lesson with me. Bidding takes place on Swedish E-bay, Tradera. Here’s where to place your bid. Read below, in Swedish only I’m afraid, why it’s important to support girls right to go to school.

Här är några anledningar till att det är viktigt att se till att flickor världen över ska ha rätt att gå i skola:

- Mer än 50 miljoner flickor får aldrig möjlighet att gå i skolan – trots att det är en mänsklig rättighet

- Varje dag stannar miljontals flickor hemma med hushållsarbete istället för att gå i skolan

- En flicka som inte utbildas riskerar att hamna i extrem fattigdom, bli bortgift eller tvingas till prostitution

- En flicka som fått gå i skolan tar bättre hand om både sig själv och sina barn.

- Många flickor går inte i skolan på grund av risken för våldtäkt eller andra övergrepp, antingen på vägen till eller i skolan.

- För varje avslutat skolår ökar en kvinnas lön med ca 20%

- Två tredjedelar av världens analfabeter är kvinnor

- Att ge en flicka en utbildning är att rädda liv

- En flicka som inte går klart grundskolan löper 10 gånger så stor risk att bli tonårsförälder jämfört med en flicka som gått grundskolan
